How to Purify Water 3 Ways

Know all three before you need one

⏱️ 72

hours is how long humans survive without water

In a disaster, tap water can be contaminated within hours. Know this now.

METHOD 1 🔥

Boiling

The most reliable method. Bring water to a rolling boil for 1 minute (3 minutes at elevation above 6,500 ft). Kills bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. Let cool before drinking.

METHOD 1 — BOILING

What you need:

Any heat source (stove, campfire, camp stove)
Metal pot or container
The water source
!Does NOT remove chemical contaminants
METHOD 2 💊

Water Purification Tablets

Iodine or chlorine dioxide tablets kill pathogens in 30–35 minutes. Ultra-portable. A single pack treats 25 liters. Cost: ~$8. Perfect for bug-out bags and car kits.

METHOD 3 🧪

Filtration

A quality filter (LifeStraw, Sawyer Squeeze) removes 99.9999% of bacteria and protozoa. Some remove viruses too. Lasts up to 100,000 gallons. Best long-term investment.

📐 1 Gallon

per person per day

That's the minimum. Store at least 72 hours worth per person before any disaster hits.

Pro Tip: Layer Your Methods

Filter first to remove sediment → then purify with tablets or boiling for maximum safety. One method can miss what another catches.
