2 – 5 Minutes

That is how fast a severe arterial bleed can kill you.

A severed femoral artery can cause fatal blood loss before anyone dials 911 and gets a response.

7 – 14+ Min

Average ambulance response time.

7 minutes in a city. 14 minutes or more in rural areas. 1 in 10 rural calls waits over 30 minutes. The ambulance cannot close that gap. You can.

What Does a Tourniquet Do?

A wide strap with a twist rod (windlass) that compresses around a limb to stop arterial blood flow completely.

Military data shows tourniquet before shock = 90% survival. Without it, survival drops to near zero.

Kragh et al., Journal of Trauma, 2009

How to Apply

1 Place it high and tight on the limb, above the wound.

2 Pull the strap as tight as possible, then velcro it.

3 Twist the windlass until bleeding stops completely.

4 Lock the windlass in the clip.

5 Write the time on the strap. Do not remove it.
