DURING THE STORM
Ride it out ยท 24-72 hours - โ Stay inside โ drive only for true emergencies
- โ If power fails: move family to the warm room, close all other doors
- โ Drip all faucets slightly to prevent pipe freezing (cold water side)
- โ Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air reach pipes
- โ Layer clothing: base layer, insulating layer, outer shell โ ALWAYS dry
- โ Eat calorie-dense foods frequently (your body burns fuel to stay warm)
- โ Stay hydrated โ dehydration reduces cold tolerance
- โ If using a generator: OUTSIDE only, 20+ ft from any window, CO alarm active
- โ Candle discipline: NO candles near kids, pets, or flammable surfaces
- โ Check on elderly neighbors if safe โ knock, confirm, move on
- โ Preserve phone battery โ airplane mode except for check-ins
